Service Guide
Occupational Physiotherapy
Can simply help reduce prolonged or unnecessary absence from work and quickly identify a relationship between an individual's condition and their working practices. Where appropriate, advice and treatment is given with guidance offered to managers regarding the prognosis of an individual's condition and its implications. (Please refer to our main page on Occupational Physiotherapy via the main menu).
Physiotherapy Triage
This is an effective way to filter through a large volume of musculoskeletal referrals. Usually a tailored system is constructed to briefly assess staff reporting musculoskeletal problems, they can then be triaged and prioritised into mainstream treatment if appropriate or given advice and reviewed again at a later date or redirected for more appropriate management other than physiotherapy. Triage can help to reduce referral waiting lists as well as ensuring that the most appropriate conditions receive physiotherapy early.
Physio Rapid (Telephone Advice Line)
Early intervention is the best practice when managing musculoskeletal symptoms. Often simply advice and exercises issued in the early stages of symptoms can have real and benificial effect prior to a more formal Physiotherapy assessment. Our solution is a telephone advice line which enables staff direct access to professional advice from a Chartered Physiotherapist.
Workplace Assessment
On site ergonomic assessments, will assist managers in identifying the potential risks to staff of sustaining accumulative strain and injury. Restrictions or alterations to specific work practices can be discussed in order to avoid absence, allow early return to work and advert relapse or further injury.
Pre-employment Musculoskeletal Screening
This service is designed to supplement the occupational pre-employment screening of staff. In principle it can be utilised specifically where an individual has a notable history of musculoskeletal events that may be considered as effecting their ability to perform a particular job or work task efficiently and safely.
The comprehensive musculoskeletal screening (MSS) involves a detailed subjective and objective assessment. The examination considers factors such as posture, range of movement, flexibility and function in conjunction with the individuals’ medical history. This screening can then be utilised to determine an individual’s capability of performing a particular job without potential risk of further musculoskeletal problems. Therefore MSS is a proactive adjunct to occupational pre-employment screening by identifying the likelihood of musculoskeletal problems in an individual, in relation to a specific job and work tasks.
Staff Training
Working with the rest of the occupational health team and appropriate departmental managers various training packages can be constructed, implemented and tailored to the varying needs and working practices of each department. This training forms a key foundation to injury prevention in the workplace, which subsequently leads to a reduction in musculoskeletal injury and related absence from work.
